PAP (Products And Philosophy) is a leather goods company that features handmade products that are produced exclusively in Sweden. We believe that timeless design is always modern and that true beauty gets better with age. However, all our products are made to facilitate, complement and improve contemporary lifestyles. Our bags and covers are tailored to protect and carry the latest personal technology, lending a sense of style and character to your phones and computers at the same time as you shield them from wear and tear.

All our accessories are made with top quality Swedish and Italian leather with solid brass details. Each item has been meticulously crafted by skilled artisans in one of our small factories in the South East region of Småland. Our products are made with longevity in mind, we like to imagine that they will be passed on from generation to generation.

The P.A.P story

PAP works exclusively with small Swedish factories that have a long history of craftsmanship and integrity. Our manufacturers share the typically Scandinavian tradition of respecting the material and working with their hands. The environment in which our products are made is intimate, hands-on and personal.

We buy our skins from leather craftsmen who use old-fashioned methods to stretch, prepare and treat the leather to give it a beautiful texture and supple feel. The skins are sewn by expert leather seamstresses whose great skill and attention to detail ensure that the product is perfectly put together.

Our brass and metal buttons and handles are crafted by a small metal manufacturer that has a long tradition of working with and a deep knowledge of the material. Each carefully minded detail makes for a perfect whole.

Philosophy

PAP Accessories is the brainchild of Ulf Pyk, a designer and artisan who has devoted his life to making meticulously crafted objects with a pure approach to form and function.

With a background in cabinet making, product design and interior architecture, Ulf has developed a deep love of material and craft. His vision for the PAP collection is to create a line of accessories that emphasizes high quality, clean lines and modern functionality.

The material itself is his inspiration, as the natural aging of the leather is reminiscent of the beauty of nature and the passing of time.

“My inspiration for PAP was to create a product that was an antidote to the cold and impersonal feeling of modern technology. I wanted the warm and organic sensation of leather to replace the cold feeling of a laptop aluminum shell,” says Ulf. The design process starts out with Ulf picking a soft and beautiful leather that inspires him. He then makes sketches of the design before creating a leather prototype, which is rigorously tested and adjusted. The last step is sourcing and selecting a hardware design that complements the product. Says Pyk; “I want my designs to feel good against the body, I want to create objects that nourish the senses and the soul.”

In order to reinforce the relationship between PAP’s products and nature, the company will go on regular inspiration trips to places of exceptional natural beauty.

“The idea is to visit places where the daily life and culture has been largely influenced by the landscape,” says Pyk, “In environments like deserts, alps, and the arctic circle, nature is a force that shapes both people and matter.”

A recent a trip to Svalbard, an isle at the northernmost tip of Norway has inspired some of the designs in the new collection Part of Svalbard’s arctic landscape is littered with mining equipment left behind from an earlier industrial era.

Over the course of time, a natural patina of moss and rust has made the tools and machinery become part of the landscape. “Svalbard gave me an extraordinary sense of the beauty of nature’s wear and tear,” says Ulf. “The freezing and thawing of the ice and snow leaves marks everywhere in the landscape. Everything is changed forever.”
